INGREDIENTS

  • 1/4 C. Crisco® Butter Flavor All-Vegetable Shortening
  • 2 large Granny Smith apples
  • 15 (3 oz.) pitted dates, coarsely chopped
  • 1/4 C. apple juice
  • 3/4 C. chicken broth
  • 2 tsp. cider vinegar
  • 2 Tbsp. prepared Dijon mustard
  • 1 to 2 tsps. Spice Islands® Curry Powder or to taste
  • 1 tsp. dried thyme or 2 tsp. chopped fresh thyme
  • Salt and pepper

DIRECTIONS

  1. MELT shortening in a heavy skillet over medium heat. Cook apples and dates about 10 minutes or until apples are almost tender. Add apple juice and chicken broth. Simmer about 5 minutes or until sauce has thickened and apples are tender.
  2. MIX in vinegar, mustard, curry powder and thyme. Season with salt and pepper, as desired. Serve warm.
