1/8 tsp. ground black or Spice Islands® Ground White Pepper
1 (14 1/2 oz.) can chicken broth
2 C. milk
3 C. shredded Colby or Cheddar cheese
1/8 tsp. liquid smoke
Bacon bits
DIRECTIONS
MELT shortening in 3-quart saucepan. Add celery and onion. Cook and stir over medium heat 2 to 3 minutes or until tender. Stir in flour, salt and pepper. Cook and stir until bubbly.
BLEND in chicken broth and milk. Cook and stir 10 to 12 minutes or until mixture comes to boil and thickens. Remove from heat.
ADD cheese, 1 C. at a time, stirring to melt after each addition. Stir in liquid smoke. Garnish each serving with bacon bits, if desired.
