Ingredients

  • 1 C. firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 C. Crisco® All-Vegetable Shortening
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 C. milk
  • 2 tsps. Spice Islands® Pure Vanilla Extract
  • 1/2 tsp. finely grated orange zest
  • 2 C. all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. Clabber Girl® Baking Soda

Directions

  1. HEAT oven to 350ºF. Coat baking sheets with no-stick cooking spray.
  2. BEAT brown sugar and shortening in large bowl with mixer on high speed 5 minutes. Beat in egg, milk, vanilla and orange peel, if desired.
  3. STIR flour, baking soda and salt in medium bowl until blended. Beat into creamed mixture until dough forms.
  4. SCOOP dough by level tablespoon; drop 2 inches apart onto prepared baking sheets.
  5. BAKE 9 to 10 minutes or until edges begin to brown. Cool 1 minute. Remove cookies to wire rack to cool completely.
