Ingredients
- Crisco® All-Vegetable Shortening
- 1 1/2 C. plain yellow cornmeal
- 2/3 C. all-purpose flour
- 1 Tbsp. Clabber Girl® Baking Powder
- 1 1/2 tsps. salt
- 1 tsp. Spice Islands® Garlic Powder
- 2 tsps. Spice Islands® Onion Powder
- 1/2 tsp. sugar
- 1 C. buttermilk
- 2 large eggs
- 2 green onions
Directions
- HEAT enough shortening to have 2-3 inches once melted to 360°F in a deep fryer or heavy deep saucepan.
- COMBINE cornmeal, flour, baking powder, salt, garlic powder, onion powder and sugar in medium bowl. Add buttermilk, eggs and onions. Mix well.
- DROP batter by tablespoonfuls into hot oil. Fry a few hush puppies at a time, 5 to 6 minutes, or until deep golden brown. Remove with slotted spoon. Drain on paper towels. Keep warm. Repeat with remaining batter. Serve immediately.
