Ingredients
- 1/2 C. finely chopped onions
- 1/2 (8 oz.) pkg. sliced white or baby Portobello mushrooms
- 1 1/2 Tbsp. Crisco® Pure Vegetable Oil
- 1/2 Tbsp. Spice Islands® Minced Garlic
- 1 (28 oz.) can crushed tomatoes
- 1/4 tsp. Spice Islands® Ground Thyme
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/2 to 1 Tbsp. minced fresh flat leaf parsley
- 8 oz. cooked bowtie or penne pasta
- Freshly grated Parmesan or Asiago cheese
Directions
- COOK onions and mushrooms in oil in 3-quart saucepan over medium heat until softened, stirring occasionally. Add garlic; cook 1 minute.
- STIR in crushed tomatoes and thyme. Reduce heat; cover and simmer 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Season with salt and pepper.
- COOK pasta in salted water according to package directions; drain. Stir parsley into prepared sauce. Serve over pasta. Sprinkle with cheese if desired.
- Tomato and Mushroom Pasta Sauce with Meat: Add 1/2 pound lean ground sausage or beef with onions and mushrooms. Proceed with recipe as written.
