Prep Time: 40 minutes + chilling
Cook Time: 50 Minutes
Serves 8-10 slices
Ingredients
1 pie crust, with fluted edges
Apple Layer:
- 2 md. apples, peeled, cored and thinly sliced (Granny Smith preferred)
- ¼ C. granulated sugar
- 2 tsp. all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp. Spice Islands® Ground Saigon Cinnamon
- 1 tsp. lemon juice
Custard Layer:
- 1 – 14 oz. can sweetened condensed milk
- 2 egg yolks
- 1 egg
- ¼ C. butter, melted
- 2 tsp. Spice Islands® Pure Vanilla Extract
- 2 tsp. Spice Islands® Ground Saigon Cinnamon
- ¼ tsp. Spice Islands® Ground Nutmeg
Directions
- Preheat oven to 375°F
- In a medium bowl, combine the apples, sugar, flour, cinnamon and lemon juice.
- Mix well and pour into unbaked pie crust. Spread evenly.
- In the same bowl, combine the sweetened condensed milk, egg yolks, whole egg, butter, vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg. Whisk until well blended.
- Pour over the apple layer and spread evenly.
- Bake for 30 minutes.
- While the pie is baking, make the crumb topping by mixing the flour, pecans, walnuts and sugar until well blended. Then with your fingers, cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Refrigerate until ready for use.
- After 30 minutes of baking, remove pie from the oven and top with crumb topping.
- Bake an additional 20 minutes or until custard layer is set. Cover the crust with foil if it’s browning too quickly.
- Cool completely on a wire rack.
