Hearty Onion and Mushroom Cheeseburgers

Ingredients

  • 3 Tbsp. Crisco® Pure Vegetable Oil
  • 1/2 C. sliced, fresh mushrooms
  • 1/4 C. chopped onion
  • 1 tsp. Spice Islands® Minced Garlic
  • 1 1/2 lbs. lean ground beef
  • 1 1/2 C. shredded Cheddar, Monterey Jack, or Swiss cheese
  • 1/4 C. plain bread crumbs
  • 3 Tbsp. milk
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp. dried thyme leaves
  • 4 crusty French rolls

Directions

  1. HEAT 2 Tbsp. oil in large skillet over medium-high heat. Add mushrooms, onion and garlic. Cook and stir 5 minutes or until onions are soft. Remove from skillet and place into mixing bowl.
  2. ADD beef, cheese, bread crumbs, milk, salt, pepper and thyme. Mix well. Form 4 ovals to match shape and size of rolls.
  3. HEAT remaining 1 Tbsp. oil in skillet over medium-high heat. Add burgers. Cook 4 to 5 minutes. Turn with spatula. Cook an additional 4 to 5 minutes, or to desired doneness. Top with onions and mushrooms. Serve on rolls with favorite condiments.
